Raul Vazquez Diaz is Engineering Fellow in Aerodynamics at Rolls-Royce. He also is technical lead of Aerothermal Excellence (Rolls-Royce Key Technology Programme that integrates the entire portfolio of Aerothermal R&T Programmes). Prior to his current role at Rolls-Royce, Raul was Chief of Aerodynamics and Functional Engineering and Fellow in Aerodynamics at Industria de Turbopropulsores (ITP) from 2002 until 2014. Over more than 10 years, he was also Associated Professor in the Fluid Mechanics and Aerospace Propulsion Dept. at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
Since 1995, Raul has worked extensively with Industry and University undertaking research in the field of fluid dynamics and aerodynamics of turbomachinery, aiming at reducing the emissions and fuel consumption of aeroengines and gas turbines for multiple applications. He also has experience of management and coaching large engineering and research teams. Over the past 20 years, he has participated in some of the most significant National, European and International research and engineering projects (including among others: Eurofighter, A400M, JSF119, A380, A350, A340, A330, B787,EEFAE, SILENSER, VITAL, DREAM, LEMCOTEC, ENOVAL, CLEAN SKY).
Raul has published papers in several Journals and presented lectures in multiple conferences and events on the related subjects of unsteady aerodynamics of turbomachinery, high lift aerofoils, high stage loading turbomachinery, endwalls flow in turbomachinery and development of high and low speed measurement techniques for turbomachinery.
He is member of the Executive Board of EUROTURBO (European Turbomachinery Association) and Spanish Delegate of Aeroacoustics Specialists’ Committee of CEAS-ASC (Council of European Aerospace Societies) and reviewer of Journal of Turbomachinery, Journal of Power and Energy, Journal of Mechanics / B Fluids, IMechE and Experiments in Fluids.
